The Benefits of Meditation on Parenting and Positive Practices for your Children and Teens

Meditation can bring you to a state of mindfulness.

In no other area can the power of this type of living be seen than in your role as a parent. Mindfulness is something that you experience moment by moment with your children. You see each act, each emotion, each laugh, each tear, each shout of anger and shout of joy with complete awareness. You acknowledge it, take it all in, with non-judgmental awareness.

Each moment with your child gives you an opportunity to open your eyes and your heart.

With being mindful through meditation, you as the parent are able to remember with clarity what is truly important. Your wisdom grows when you bring this awareness to each experience, good and bad, as it unfolds.

For your children, when they practice meditation that is appropriate for their age, they can also begin to benefit from being able to see each moment just as it is.

There is a wonderful site that offers different meditations for your child. Separated in a parent-friendly and kid-friendly way, there are a series of stories that are appropriate for different ages.

Kids are already familiar with the concept of meditation. For them it is often called “time out”. Here, they are physically expected to be still as a result of their tornado-type activity. Meditation is simply an extension of this idea….but it is a “time out” for the mind that is not the result of any sort of misbehaving.

It is simply a way for kids, and parents, to allow the time to separate their brains from all the chaos and stimulation that occupies so much of our normal, everyday, modern lives.

Give your kids the gift of meditation. Give yourself the gift of meditation. You can then all have the gift of fully enjoying this life moment by moment.
